About Pulak Ghosh

Dr. Pulak Ghosh is a Professor of Decision Sciences and Information Systems at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).

His main research and teaching interest are in Big data, Machine learning, AI, Fintech Economics, and public policy. Pulak has published over 70 research articles in internationally reputed journals. He is currently serving in the editorial board of the Journal of Royal Statistical Society and served in the editorial board of Journal of the American Statistical Association.

Prof. Ghosh serves as a senior fellow at Niti Ayoog (Govt of India’s highest policy making body) and has been in the Advisory group of Big data at the United Nations (UN) Global Pulse, a big data initiative by UN. He is also an academic fellow at the Center for Advanced Financial Research and Learning promoted by Reserve Bank of India. Recently, he is a member of the prestigious Karnataka Knowledge Commission, Executive member of the start-up council of Govt. of Rajasthan. He is the Chairman of the big data initiative of Karnataka Govt. He is a senior advisor of McKinsey for big data and emerging technologies. He serves in the advisory board of various organizations, and also member of various national and international committees on big data, AI and fintech. He has been named as one of the top 5 data scientist in the world (of Indian origin) by Techradar in 2017.

Big data analytics is a set of techniques and processes that can be used to derive business insight from raw data to support decision making. Business analytics enables organization to discover trends, predict and explore different scenarios in business and thus helps them to get new insight.
The objective of the programme is to understand the role of big data and expose the participants with popular business analytic tools and techniques and how to use them in practical situations for better decision making with special emphasis on banking, aviation, health and marketing.
